psychoanalysis & psychotherapy

Talking to someone and being fully listened to, without being judged, can be the start of a process of developing strategies and solutions and coming to terms with difficult and traumatic experiences.

Life can become extremely difficult:

  • Things may seem overwhelming and out of control following a recent event or trauma;

  • Possibly something from your past has returned to worry you;

  • Or you realise that you need to finally tackle something you have been suffering with for a long time;

  • Perhaps you need to make an important decision and can’t think how to do so;

  • Maybe you are plagued with anxiety or unhappy but with no clear idea as to why.

Issues brought to the work might include:

  • Anxiety

  • Compulsions

  • Body issues

  • Trauma

  • Bereavement

  • Depression

  • Addictions

  • Relationship problems

  • Stress

  • Sexual issues

  • Eating disorders

  • Identity issues

How it works

  • I invite you to contact me by telephone or email to arrange a first appointment.

    This first consultation is for you to tell me about yourself and why you are seeking therapy now and what you hope to achieve in embarking upon therapeutic work. You may have questions about what the psychoanalytic work can involve.

    In this meeting we will agree whether to start working together.

  • I work in Cambridge in a consultation room in Newnham.

    The Studio, Newnham Croft Street, Cambridge CB3 9HR

    My consulting room is located to the left hand side of the Derby Stores.

    Please knock on the wooden slatted door at the time of your appointment.

  • I predominantly work with people in person but remote sessions are sometimes appropriate or necessary and for this I normally use Skype video or telephone.

  • The fee for the initial consultation is £70.

    The frequency of sessions and the ongoing fee are discussed in the first session and are subject to review as work proceeds and if your circumstances change.

    The length of each sessions is variable, more often lasting between 40 and 50 minutes.

    Typically a particular day/time slot will be secured for you. Should a particular session need to be rearranged, I will endeavour to find an alternative slot if sufficient notice allows.

    Payment is due in full for appointments missed or cancelled (with less than 24 hours notice).

  • Psychoanalytic work can continue for many months, occasionally even years, but some find significant benefits and change are achieved after relatively few sessions.

Working psychoanalytically involves paying particular attention to the words spoken and can reveal the unconscious processes which drive us
